Design Studio Alpha

After a semester of design oriented subjects upon first entering the Bachelor of Design, Alpha was my first solid architecture studio at The University of Melbourne. The brief for our major project, entitled Dystopian Dreams, was centered around creating a community space at the existing Lincoln Square site for a marginalized group in a world which has just experienced a catastrophic environmental event. The design features a gathering and teaching space at the center, protected at the major Swanston street boundary by grassy mounds which help to create a sense of privacy and blocking out of the outside world. Surrounding the teaching space is a boardwalk which meanders through gardens containing native Australian plants, as well as two smaller shared spaces for informal social gatherings.
