In this subject, taught fully online, we were tasked with densifying and intensifying a Carlton North property overlooking MacArthur Square and the CBD beyond. At present, there are 17 occupants across the site. The brief asked students to take this up to 29 occupants across 10 different dwelling units. The challenge was not simply to densify and cram as much in as possible, but to enrich the lives of the residents at the same time. As such, I created a precinct which has a strong community feel, with large open spaces connecting the individual dwelling units in the form of communal outdoor living areas, surrounded by greenery and running water. The development has it’s power offset by solar energy, and utilizes recycled brickwork to ensure it’s carbon footprint is as low as possible.
