Foundations of Design: Representation
The very first studio subject taken within the Bachelor of Design is Foundations of Design: Representation. This subject takes a very broad look at the design process through a series of varied briefs and projects across the semester. Of particular interest was Module 3, where I was given a 594 x 594 (A1 Square) piece of terrain on which to build a modular design. Using paneling tools in Rhino, I broke this into a 10 x 10 grid of modules, “unrolled” them individually and manually constructed the design over many painstaking hours. This, whilst not particularly relevant from a strictly architectural point of view, was a great introduction to the design process and how to effectively deliver a project.
