Facade Design and Construction

Designed as a follow on from the previous subject, AAT, Facade Design and Construction had a similar focus in it’s use of the curtain wall, however on a smaller scale. The smaller scale allowed the group of Harry Waldron, Ng Jia Wei and Armand Alouche to dive deeper into the details of medium rise constuction. Overall, the series of two subjects was a valuable learning experience from two points of view, both the content and the detail drawing skills. While the specific content surrounding construction techniques was valuable, it could be argued that the opportunity to produce and understand presentation quality detail drawings was even more important.

To be applied to an exisitng building, the design itself is dominated by a bespoke mesh shading system, designed to be completely modular and installed in the same way as a regular curtain wall. It would allow for shading on the northern portion of the facade to be operable, opening up to welcome in winter sunlight, and closing to block harsher summer sun. Below is the series of drawings which form my portion of the submission, followed by a selection of the group produced renders of our final vision.
